Workshop: "Physical story telling alone and not alone“ (for Clown solo, Duo and Group)

25.05. - 27.05.2012

Beginners/Advanced/Oldies

Theatre of Storytelling is based on the Performer-Narrator, acting in an empty space, looking for the artistic and creative search for one’s personal language in body, text and space.

The performer is the narrator and the characters, using the body to create the space, the mood and the sounds on stage, and maintaining an intimate dialogue with the audience. This way of working on the stage enables quick moves from image to image, character to character. It also enables the creation of either a one person or a group show, for an audience of either children or adults.

The workshop participant is invited to choose a topic of interest (personal, folk tales or any text of interest). Then starts the process of dramatic adaptation and the search for one’s personal language in body, text and space.

Main Subjects of the Workshop

  • Adaptation and editing of a story (creating dramatic structure).
  • Exploring the narrator's dialogue with the story (imagination, thoughts, feelings etc.)
  • Awareness of body language and finding a personal physical language (the performer as a creator of space, gesture, characters, place etc.).
  • The performer/narrator’s presence on stage (using techniques of the dramatic clown).
  • Creating a dialogue with an audience (skills of improvisation, reacting with a spontaneous public and developing a “selective dialogue”).
  • The theatre of objects - Manipulation and transformation of objects in space, integrated in a dramatic situation.
  • Music as a partner to the actor in creating a theatre piece. Integrating music, live music with storytelling.
